Welcome to Rosedale Playschool

Our School:

Rosedale Playschool is an outdoor focused, emergent program that is greatly inspired by the Forest School approach and pedagogy of Reggio Emilia. Our preschool is for 3-4 year olds and is community based and oriented and we are a non-for-profit preschool. We have been encouraging minds through play for over 30 years in the community.

We are very community driven. We are a parent-run school, which means the Rosedale Playschool Board consists of parent volunteers; the school is dependent on all the families having a volunteer role and volunteering in the classroom. There is a small staff of 3 teachers who are in charge of the programming and teaching all the classes.

Our Belief & Mission Statement:

We believe that children learn through play and that the best method is through child-initiated approach. We strive to provide an accepting environment that responds to and promotes individual differences, appreciation of individual capabilties, and respect regardless of a person’s health, developmental, economic or social status or their cultural background.

Everyone in the community shares a role and responsibility for all children’s well being, therefore we value trust, honesty, community and participation in the program. We commit to providing an environment that promotes and supports good health and nutrition. We believe in encouraging and inspiring children to use and strengthen their abilites to enable them to reach their full potential. Therefore, we commit to providing a supportive environment that fosters development at a pace appropriate to each individual child to help them develop self-confidence and the ability to make appropriate choices and decisions.

The Reggio Emilia Approach & Our Program:

Rosedale Playschool is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy of education that originated in Northen Italy. Our school does not intend to duplicate this philosophy because the children, families and teachers of Rosedale Playschool offer a different culture, location and perspective.

The Reggio Emilia philosophy is an approach to teaching, learning and advocacy for children in its most basic form, it is a way of observing what children know, are curious about and what challenges them. Teachers record these observations to reflect on developmentally appropriate ways to help children expand their learning and developement.
